Doulas: statistically-proven to reduce risk of surgery, length of labor and use of drugs.
September 24, 2014
"Having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40% and requests for an epidural by 60%."
As a doula, it can sometimes be difficult to represent the value of my role in a quantitive way. I can argue that my presence and knowledge is useful and calming, but sometimes clean statistics are useful to make a case for doulas.
